My Travel Essentials: The 10 Things Every Traveler Needs

Updated: Jan 20, 2025
After years of often overpacking for trips and not being prepared, I have finally figured out how to pack efficiently and take actual practical things with me to my destinations. Keep reading to see my top 10 items I need for nearly every trip.

While the exact things you'll need might vary based on where you're headed and the reason for your travel, there are a few must-have essentials that should absolutely make their way into your bags. In this blog, we'll dive into those indispensable items you should never leave behind, as well as a few that are just nice to have when packing for your next travel escapade.
Keep all your important items close to you with a belt bag that most people wear as a cross body! I love using this especially at airports so I can quickly grab my ID and also have my wallet, hand sani, chapstick and more so accessible.
No matter if you're a solo traveler or just want some peace of mind, a safety alarm is a great thing to have on you while traveling. This one makes a loud noise and flashes a bright light to startle someone and draw attention to a situation. You can never be too safe!
This phone charger is one of my favorite travel items because it's so mobile. You don't have to worry about a cable and it's so convenient. It can also be charged while it's charging your phone!
I don't know how I lived so long without using packing cubes. They are amazing for organization in your luggage whether you're separating outfits or just different types of clothes.
🗣️ Add one to your checked luggage! This is one of the best travel hacks I learned so you can see where your suitcase is *just in case* it gets lost.
A reusable water bottle has become a travel staple for me because I carry it everywhere when I'm home, so it's become a habit! Use it when you're walking around touring a city, and save money without buying multiple plastic bottles. Make sure you get an insulated one so your drink stays cold for hours. I'm impartial to Hydro Flask bottles but there's endless ~cute~ options to choose from.
If you're like me, you may be flying some airlines that don't have screens on the backs of seats. After holding my phone up on too many flights, I finally found this phone mount that fits perfectly on those *cheaper* airlines.
Whether you're taking a weekend trip or a week-long vacay, this bag is perfect for any type of excursion! With tons of pockets, a shoe compartment and the included toiletry and storage bags, it has everything you need. My favorite part about it is the luggage strap on the back that slides over a carry-on handle!
Okay, this isn't a necessity but it's very nice to have if you wear a lot of jewelry! I love wearing rings and layering necklaces and this helps keep them from getting tangled while traveling.
If you're traveling internationally, make sure you take one of these! There's four plugs that cover over 150 countries plus USB ports for charging multiple phones and other electronics. Something important to note - check the voltage needed for hair dryers and other similar items as they could blow a fuse!
When it comes to packing for travel, being prepared is key to a successful trip. By including these items in your luggage, you'll ensure a smooth, safe, and comfortable journey. Make sure to adapt the list based on your specific travel needs, destination, and duration. With careful planning and packing, you'll be ready to embark on your adventure and create lifelong memories while having the peace of mind that you have everything you need. Safe travels!
